Fatal collision on US 31 W in Hart County

(Bowling Green, Ky.) - On Friday December 16, 2011, at 8:48 am, Kentucky State Police Post 03 responded to an injury accident on US 31 W one mile south of Rowlets, KY.

Preliminary reports show that a vehicle being operated by Arminda E. Nunn (83) of Munfordville, KY was traveling South on US 31-W just South of Hardy Valley Road, when she struck a pool of water loosing control of her vehicle.

Ms. Nunn's vehicle then crossed the center line striking another vehicle being operated by Bedford Coffey Jr. (46) Of Edmonton, KY. Mr. Coffey's vehicle head on. Mr. Coffey's vehicle then exited the right side of the roadway after impact and overturned. Mr. Coffey was ejected from his vehicle.

Another vehicle which was being operated by Matthew D. Lewis (38) of Hardyville, KY and was traveling South behind Ms. Nunn's vehicle steered right in an attempt to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful and struck the rear of Ms. Nunn's vehicle. Mr. Lewis' vehicle then exited the right side of the roadway and struck a tree with the front of his vehicle.

Ms. Nunn was pronounced deceased at the scene by Hart County Coroner Jeff Roten.

Mr. Coffey was transported to T.J. Samson Hospital and then later transported to the University of Louisville Hospital, his condition is unknown at this time.

Mr. Lewis was transported to Caverna Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.

Rain and water pooling on the roadway are believed to be contributing factors in the collision.

Ms. Nunn and Mr. Lewis were wearing seatbelts and Mr. Coffey was unrestrained in his vehicle.

Trooper Joel Huff is the lead investigator in this case.

Trooper Huff was assisted at the scene by, Troopers Terry Alexander, Jonathan McChesney, John Holbrook, CVE Officer Jason Morris, Munfordville PD, Hart County Sheriff's Dept, EM Director Kerry McDaniel, Munfordville and Horse Cave FD - Hart County EMS Hart County Coroner Jeff Roten.
