Fatal collision on Interstate 65 at the 48 mile marker

(Bowling Green, Ky.) - On December 01, 2011 at 4:07 pm Kentucky State Police Post 03 responded to a two vehicle collision on Interstate 65 at the 48 mile marker south bound in Barren County, KY.

The preliminary investigation shows that a vehicle that was being operated by William C. Ellis(77) of Park City, KY was traveling south on interstate 65 when it rear ended an unoccupied disabled vehicle which was sitting in the emergency lane on the out side right shoulder of the interstate.

Mr. Ellis had to be extricated from his vehicle and then air lifted to the University of Louisville Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Mr. Ellis was pronounced dead at 6:43 pm by the Jefferson County Coroner Joanne Farmer.

Mr.Ellis was the only occupant of his vehicle.

Assisting Trooper Holbrook at the scene were: Troopers Timmy Jewell , Brian Gann and Sgt Kelly Anderson with Commercial Vehicle Enforcement.

Other Agencies who assisted were: Park City Fire Department, Barren County EMS, Scotty's Construction Safety Crew, Dept of Transportation Safe Patrol and Air Methods

Trooper John Holbrook is the lead investigator in this case.

The investigation is ongoing.
