Fatal Animal Drawn collision on Priceville Road in Hart County

(Bowling Green, Ky.) - On Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 4:56 P.M. (CST), Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green responded to the 12000th block of Priceville Road in Hart County, Kentucky. The call was in regards to a fatal collision that had occurred.

According to Trooper Jeremy Smith, Michael Riggs (44) of Horse Cave, Kentucky was traveling west on KY 728 when he approached a horse drawn buggy being ridden by Aaron Byler (18) of Cub Run, Kentucky. Michael Riggs was operating a 1992 Chevrolet Blazer when he struck the buggy in the rear end. The buggy did not have a slow moving sign or reflectors on the buggy. Mr. Byler was ejected from the buggy and was transported by helicopter to the University of Louisville Hospital.

While in route to the hospital Mr. Byler succumbed to his injuries, and the flight was diverted to Hardin Memorial Hospital. Mr. Byler was pronounced deceased at 6:10 P.M. (CST).

Mr. Riggs was transported to Caverna Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released. The investigation is still ongoing and is being led by Trooper Jeremy Smith.
