Two-vehicle Fatal Collsion in Hart County

(Bowling Green, Ky.) -- On Monday, August 8, 2011, at 5:49 a.m., Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green responded to a call for service on I 65 at the 64 mile point in Hart County, Kentucky. The call was in regards to a two-vehicle fatality collision.
According to Trooper Joel Huff, Unit 1 a 1998 Jeep Cherokee driven by Mark E. Jones (50) of Bowling Green, KY was traveling North on I 65 in Hart County. Mr. Jones approached Unit 2 a 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood driven by Lawrence Smith (57) of Chattanooga, TN who was traveling in the left lane near the overpass bridge. Mr. Jones for an unknown reason lost control of his vehicle and struck unit 2 in the left rear area. The impact caused unit 1 to overturn several times before exiting the left side of the roadway. He then entered the median coming to final rest upright facing east.
Mr. Jones was transported to Caverna Memorial Hospital by the Hart County EMS and was later pronounced dead by the Hart County Coroner Jeff Roten. Mr. Smith was able to keep control of his vehicle after impact and pulled over in the emergency lane near the Munfordville exit and was not injured in the collision.
Trooper Huff is investigating the collision and was he was assisted by Munfordville Fire Department, Hart County EMS, and Hart County Coroner Jeff Roten.
