Injury Collision on I-65 in Barren County

Date of News Release: 06/09/2011

(Bowling Green, Ky.) - On Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at approximately 4:35 p.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green received a call for service in reference to a single vehicle injury collision involving a motorcycle on I-65 near the 53 mile marker southbound. The investigation determined that Earl Howell (68) of Indiana, was operating a 2002 Honda Motorcycle with a pull behind trailer when he veered over onto the rumble strip from the lefthand lane. The operator lost control of the motorcycle and left the roadway and traveled into the median. The motorcycle struck a concrete barrier on the opposite side of the median and caused both the operator and passenger to be ejected. The two occupants were discovered in the northbound lanes. The operator, and passenger, Phyllis Howell (65) of Indiana, were air lifted to the University of Louisville Hospital where they were treated for their injuries. The investigation was led by Trooper Jeremy Smith and he was assisted by Trooper Timmy Jewell.
