Officer Involved Shooting Investigation in Butler County

(Bowling Green, Ky.) -- On Wednesday, June 8, 2011, the Butler County Sheriff's Department received a call for assistance at 37 Big Oak Lane in reference to a domestic disturbance. The caller advised that Roy Felty (39) of Aberdeen, Kentucky, was threatening family members with a knife at the residence.

Butler County Sheriff's Department Deputy Heath West, arrived at the residence and confronted Mr. Felty, who was still armed with the knife upon his arrival. Mr. Felty ignored repeated commands to drop the knife and was shot by Deputy West when he approached Deputy West still armed with the knife.

In accordance with Butler County Sheriff's Department policy and procedures, Deputy West has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The investigation continues and is under the direction of Kentucky State Police Post 3 Detective Brad Stevenson.
