Money Scam Warning

Date of News Release: 05/23/2011

(Bowling Green, Ky.) -- Kentucky State Police Post 3 is asking anyone for information in regards to a scam that has been going on in the Smiths Grove / Hayes community in Warren County. The suspect is believed to be going to random people in the community and asking who the elderly man is that lives nearby. He is claiming that he has been hired to do some work for the elderly subject. When the person identifies an elderly male in the area, the suspect then goes to the elderly person's house and calls them by first or last name when he is met at the door.

At this point, if he doesn't get invited in, he may open the door and help himself in. He then gives a story that his mother had been injured in a wreck or has suffered a heart attack, and says she has been flown to Louisville. He will then ask for $80.00. If the victim asks him where he lives, he will tell them just down the road from them. He assures the victim that they know him, and have known him for awhile.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5'6" to 5'8", 170 pounds, receding salt and pepper hair, with no facial hair. The vehicle description is an older model white Dodge truck with paint peeling off of it. The suspect has attempted this scam several times over the past week.

If anyone has any information or sees the truck please contact the Kentucky State Police at (270)782-2010.
