Update to the Felony Arrest in Warren County

(Bowling Green, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police Vehicle Investigations Branch followed up on the initial investigation, and conducted a search at a salvage yard in Butler County. Several thousand vehicles were examined with a total of 32 vehicles being recovered including Nashville Police Department's bait car as well as a stolen wrecker being driven by the 17 year old juvenile. Recovered vehicles were recovered from Tennessee, Kentucky and Indiana. All vehicles recovered at the salvage yard had been stolen from interstates and major parkways between Nashville, TN and Louisville, KY. More charges are pending at this time. KSP Vehicle Investigations were assisted by KSP Post 3, KSP Post 4 and The National Insurance Crime Bureau. The case remains under investigation by Detective Israel Slinker.

(Bowling Green, Ky.) -- Kentucky State Police was contacted by Nashville Metro Police Department on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 7:20 P.M., advising that they were following an unknown wrecker North bound on I-65 that had illegally hooked to an abandoned bait car in Nashville. After following the vehicle for several miles on I-65, Kentucky State Police Post 3 initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle as it exited I-65 at the 28mm. The wrecker was driven by a 17 year old juvenile from Grayson County. While accessing the situation, the juveniles' father, Shawn Preston(41) of Caneyville, KY arrived at the scene as well. Both subjects were detained and brought to Kentucky State Police Post 3 for questioning. Upon further investigation, both subjects charged and arrested. The juvenile was lodged in the Warren County Juvenile Detention Center and Preston was lodged in the Warren County Detention Center.

The juvenile was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st (Hydrocodone), Possession of Controlled Substance not in proper container, Rec. Stolen Property U/$10,000, Illegal Possession of Manufactured VIN Plate, Obscured ID of Machine, Improper Registration Plate, Violation of Part 390 Federal Safety Regulation No Name of DOT # on Exterior, Violation of Part 391 Federal Safety Regulation Interstate Driver U/21, Violation of Part 391 Federal Safety Regulation No Medical Exam Certificate, Violation of Part 392 Federal Safety Regulation Use of Commercial Vehicle to Commit Felony, and Violation of Part 395 Federal Safety Regulation No Record of Duty Status (Log Book).

Shawn Preston was charged with Carrying Concealed Deadly Weapon, Expired Registration Plate, Expired Registration Receipt, Unlawful Transaction with a Minor 2nd Degree, Violation of Part 392 Federal Safety Regulation Use of Commercial Vehicle in Commission of a Criminal Act, And Violation of Part 395 Federal Safety Regulation No Record of Duty Status (Log Book).

The investigation is ongoing by Trooper Mayfield and the Kentucky State Police Auto Theft Division.
