Trooper was drug along side a suspect's car

(Bowling Green, Ky.) -- On March 18, 2011, at 10:32 P.M., Trooper Brian McKinney of the Kentucky State Police, Bowling Green Post was observing for a Nissan Pickup Truck in regards to a speeding complaint that had been received on KY 70 in Butler County, Kentucky. After the vehicle was located, Trooper McKinney initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at the intersection of KY 70 and Jolertown Road in Butler County. The operator of the vehicle, Adam West age 26 of 1148 Leonard Oak Church Road, Morgantown, Kentucky, refused to exit the vehicle upon Trooper McKinney's commands. Trooper McKinney attempted to assist West out of the vehicle. Mr. West then accelerated his vehicle, dragging Trooper McKinney along side of his vehicle. Trooper McKinney lost his grip on Mr. West and was thrown onto the roadway. Trooper McKinney returned to his vehicle and continued to pursue West's vehicle. A Butler County Sheriff's Deputy located West's vehicle traveling on KY 70 towards Morgantown, Kentucky. Mr. West refused to stop when the deputy activated his lights and siren. Mr. West continued on KY 70 before losing control of his vehicle and traveling into a field located at KY 70 and Leonard Oak Road. Mr. West was taken into custody and lodged in the Butler County Jail. Trooper McKinney was transported to Medical Center in Bowling Green where he was treated and released for head trauma, injuries to his wrist, arms, and legs. Adam West was charged with Fleeing and Evading Police 1st Degree (motor vehicle), Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (Police Officer), Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Assault 2nd Degree (Police Officer), Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol 2nd Offense, and related traffic offenses.

The investigation is ongoing by Trooper Brian McKinney and was assisted by the Butler County Sheriff's Department.
