Single vehicle injury collision on I-65

Date of News Release: 03/05/2011

(Bowling Green, Ky.) -- On Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 11:17 a.m., Kentucky State Police investigated a motor vehicle injury collision at the 74 mile marker of I 65 in Hart County, Kentucky. The operator of the vehicle Steve M. Thornton (58) of Glasgow and his passenger Carole F. Thornton (86) of Munfordville were traveling North on I 65 when Thornton's 2003 GMC SUV struck a pool of water in the roadway causing him to loose control of the vehicle. Thornton's vehicle exited the left side of the roadway and traveled down a sharp, gravel embankment before entering the median. As the vehicle traveled down the embankment, the vehicle overturned as it entered the median. The vehicle came to final rest, upright, in the median. Thornton and his passenger were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision and both were transported to Hardin Memorial Hospital by the Hart County EMS. Thornton's passenger was later transported to U of L Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Heavy rain in the area was a contributing factor in the collision. The collision is being investigated by Trooper Joel Huff and was assisted by the Bonnieville Fire Department, Hart County EMS and Atterberry's Towing.
