Update to the Simpson County Deputies involved in shooting

(Bowling Green, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police in Bowling Green were notified by Vanderbilt Hospital regarding the status of Kelly Halcomb. Post 3 was told by Hospital personnel that Halcomb had succumbed to his injuries at 03:00 hours on Thursday, January 06, 2011, and passed away.
There is no further information at this time and the investigation is on-going.

(Franklin, Ky.) -- On January 3, 2011, at 10:45 PM CST, the Kentucky State Police Post 3-Bowling Green was contacted by the Simpson County Sheriff's Office requesting assistance with a shooting investigation involving two of their deputies.
Preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 10:35 PM CST, Simpson County Deputies Matt Freeman and Roy Lotz were on patrol when they observed a suspicious vehicle in a field off of Kummer Road, approximately six (6) miles southwest of Franklin. Upon the deputies approach to the vehicle the operator and sole occupant allegedly attempted to strike the officers with his vehicle. The suspect continued to disregarded officers commands and brandished a firearm. Deputy Roy Lotz fired his service weapon striking the suspect.
The suspect, Kelly Halcomb, a 48 year old Franklin resident, was transported to Vanderbilt Hospital for treatment.
Neither deputy was injured during the incident. Pursuant to the Simpson County Sheriff's Office policy, both deputies have been assigned to administrative duty.
The investigation is continuing by Detective Jonathan Biven of the Kentucky State Police. KSP was assisted by Franklin Police Department, Simpson County EMS, AIREVAC.
