One killed in a three vehicle collision on I-24

Oak Grove, KY. (Christian County) -- On Friday, December 16, 2011 at approximately 8:05 a.m., the Kentucky State Police investigated a 3-vehicle, single fatality collision on I-24 at approximately the 87 mile-marker.
Joelle J. Townsend, age 34 of Fort Campbell, KY, was operating a 2002 Suzuki XL7 westbound on I-24. Tony E. Pritchard, age 51 of Vincennes, IN, was operating a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer eastbound on I-24. Mr. Pritchard was hauling metal. Loriston M. Lovelady, age 85 of Hopkinsville, KY, was operating a 1995 Nissan pickup truck eastbound on I-24 traveling behind Mr. Pritchard's vehicle.
Ms. Townsend lost control of her vehicle and it traveled through the median and continued into the eastbound lanes of travel. Her vehicle struck the rear tires on Mr. Pritchard's semi trailer causing her vehicle to spin around and strike the left, rear of Mr. Lovelady's vehicle.
Ms. Townsend was ejected from her vehicle upon contact with Mr. Pritchard's semi trailer. Ms. Townsend was pronounced dead at the scene by Christian County Deputy Coroner Mike Stokes. Mr. Pritchard and Mr. Lovelady were not injured. Ms. Townsend was not wearing a seatbelt. Mr. Pritchard and Mr. Lovelady were wearing seatbelts.
The collision investigation is continuing by Trooper Michael Dennis. The Oak Grove Police Department, Christian County Sheriff's Department, KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Christian County Fire/Rescue, Christian County EMS, the State Highway Department, and the Christian County Coroner's Office assisted at the scene.
