Stats from Post 2 for October 2011

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of October 2011, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 27 Impaired Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,443 Citations
  • Issued 575 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 107 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 13 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 574 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 111 Traffic Crashes
  • Assisted 135 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 861 Calls For Service
  • Opened 64 Criminal Cases
  • Made 129 Criminal Arrests

**There were five (5) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of six (6) lives reported in the Post 2 District in October 2011. One, double-fatality occurred in Christian County. Single, fatality crashes occurred in Caldwell, Crittenden, Hopkins, and Muhlenberg Counties. Two (2) victims were not wearing a seatbelt and four (4) victims were wearing a seatbelt.

Through October 31, 2011, 30 people have been killed in 28 crashes in the Post 2 District. Eleven (11) victims were wearing a seatbelt, seven (7) victims were not wearing a seatbelt, five (5) victims were not wearing a helmet, three (3) victims were pedestrians, one (1) victim was operating a farm tractor, one (1) victim was in an animal-drawn vehicle, one (1) victim was operating a mowing tractor, and the seatbelt status of one (1) victim is unknown.

Through October 31, 2010, 43 people had been killed in 37 crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
