(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of September 2011, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 28 Impaired Drivers
- Issued a Total of 1,520 Citations
- Issued 651 Speeding Citations
- Issued 143 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 13 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 607 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 84 Traffic Crashes
- Assisted 176 Stranded Motorists
- Answered 895 Calls For Service
- Opened 54 Criminal Cases
- Made 97 Criminal Arrests
**There were five (5) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of five (5) lives reported in the Post 2 District in September 2011. Two, single-fatality crashes occurred in both Hopkins and Muhlenberg Counties. One, single-fatality crash occurred in Webster County. One (1) victim was not wearing a seatbelt, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet, two (2) victims were wearing seatbelts, and one (1) victim was a pedestrian.
Through September 30, 2011, 22 people have been killed in 21 crashes in the Post 2 District. Seven (7) victims were wearing a seatbelt, four (4) victims were not wearing a seatbelt, four (4) victims were not wearing a helmet, three (3) victims were pedestrians, one (1) victim was operating a farm tractor, one (1) victim was in an animal-drawn vehicle, one (1) victim was operating a mowing tractor, and the seatbelt status of one (1) victim is unknown.
Through September 30, 2010, 37 people had been killed in 32 crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
