(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of July August, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 44 Impaired Drivers
- Issued a Total of 2,139 Citations
- Issued 878 Speeding Citations
- Issued 205 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 29 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 668 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 90 Traffic Crashes
- Assisted 219 Stranded Motorists
- Answered 1,089 Calls For Service
- Opened 90 Criminal Cases
- Made 172 Criminal Arrests
**There were four (4) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of five (5) lives reported in the Post 2 District in August 2011. A double-fatality crash occurred in Muhlenberg County. Two single-fatality crashes occurred in Hopkins County and one single-fatality crash occurred in Todd County. One (1) victim was not wearing a seatbelt, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet, two (2) victims were wearing seatbelts, and one (1) victim was operating a mowing tractor.
Through August 31, 2011, seventeen (17) people have been killed in sixteen (16) crashes in the Post 2 District. Five (5) victims were wearing a seatbelt, three (3) victims were not wearing a seatbelt, three (3) victims were not wearing a helmet, two (2) victims were pedestrians, one (1) victim was operating a farm tractor, one (1) victim was in an animal-drawn vehicle, one (1) victim was operating a mowing tractor, and the seatbelt status of one (1) victim is unknown.
Through August 31, 2010, 30 people had been killed in 27 crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
