Standoff ends peacefully

(Browder, Ky.) -- On Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at approximately 12:59 p.m., the Kentucky State Police and the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department arrived at a residence on Forest Oak Church Road to conduct a welfare check. The Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department had received a complaint that a David L. Drake, age 53 of Belton, KY, was possibly holding his spouse and child against their will. The Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department then contacted the Kentucky State Police for assistance.
When officers made contact with Mr. Drake at the residence, he refused to exit or allow the officers to check on the welfare of his spouse and child. A lengthy standoff then ensued.
At approximately 11:16 p.m., Mr. Drake exited his residence and was taken into custody. He was transported to the Muhlenberg Community Hospital where he was treated and released. He was lodged in the Muhlenberg County Detention Center and charged with Mentally Ill-A Danger to Self/Others, Unlawful Imprisonment 1st Degree, and Resisting Arrest. His spouse and child were not injured.
The Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department, Kentucky State Police Special Response Team, Muhlenberg County EMS and the Department of Community Based Services assisted at the scene.
