(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of July 2011, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 34 Impaired Drivers
- Issued a Total of 1,731 Citations
- Issued 676 Speeding Citations
- Issued 235 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 8 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 672 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 73 Traffic Crashes
- Assisted 265 Stranded Motorists
- Answered 989 Calls For Service
- Opened 79 Criminal Cases
- Made 178 Criminal Arrests
**There were three (3) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of three (3) lives reported in the Post 2 District in July 2011. All three of the fatal crashes occurred in Christian County. One (1) victim was wearing a seatbelt, one (1) victim was a pedestrian, and one (1) victim was in an animal-drawn vehicle.
Through July 31, 2011, twelve (12) people have been killed in twelve (12) crashes in the Post 2 District. Three (3) victims were wearing a seatbelt, two (2) victims were not wearing a seatbelt, two (2) victims were not wearing a helmet, two (2) victims were pedestrians, one (1) victim was operating a farm tractor, one (1) victim was in an animal-drawn vehicle, and the seatbelt status of one (1) victim is unknown.
Through July 31, 2010, 26 people had been killed in 24 crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
