Hopkins County Tractor-Trailer Crash

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Malcolm Johnson, age 43 of Labelle, FL, was operating a 2006 Freightliner tractor-trailer westbound on the Western Kentucky Parkway at approximately the 43 mile-marker when he glanced away from the roadway. The vehicle struck the guardrail along the westbound shoulder of the roadway. It continued along the guardrail until Mr. Johnson was able to stop. Several hundred gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the vehicle. Mr. Johnson and his passenger/wife, Shawn Johnson, age 45, were both wearing seat belts and were not injured. The roadway remained open while the scene was cleared. The tractor-trailer was hauling ceramic fire logs. The load did not spill. Trooper Bob Winters investigated the crash that occurred on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at approximately 3:30 p.m. Trooper First Class John Komar and Kelly's Towing & Environmental assisted at the scene.
