Stats from Post 2 for May 2011

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of May 2011, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 68 Impaired Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 2,527 Citations
  • Issued 783 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 499 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 32 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 800 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 99 Traffic Crashes
  • Assisted 219 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 1,002 Calls For Service
  • Opened 63 Criminal Cases
  • Made 220 Criminal Arrests

**There was one (1) fatal crash that resulted in the loss of one (1) life reported in the Post 2 District in May 2011. The fatal crash occurred in Todd County and the victim was wearing a seatbelt.

Through May 31, 2011, nine (9) people have been killed in nine (9) crashes in the Post 2 District. Two (2) victims were wearing a seatbelt, two (2) victims were not wearing a seatbelt, two (2) victims were not wearing a helmet, one (1) victim was a pedestrian, one (1) victim was operating a farm tractor, and the seatbelt status of one (1) victim is unknown.

Through May 31, 2010, 15 people had been killed in 15 crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
