Injury collision on US 41A in Hopkins County

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Bobby Hawkins, age 62 of Providence, KY, was operating a 2003 Buick Rendezvous southbound on US 41A in Manitou when another vehicle pulled out into his path of travel. Mr. Hawkins swerved to the left and avoided the other vehicle. However, his vehicle dropped off the shoulder of the roadway. Mr. Hawkins overcorrected. His vehicle crossed both lanes of travel and exited off the roadway traveling into a ditch and striking a culvert. Mr. Hawkins was transported via ambulance to the Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was wearing a seatbelt. Trooper First Class John Komar investigated the crash that occurred on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at approximately 11:55 a.m. KSP CVE Officer Larry Johnston, Manitou Fire & Rescue, Nebo Fire & Rescue, and Medical Center Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
