(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of April 2011, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 42 Impaired Drivers
- Issued a Total of 1,980 Citations
- Issued 821 Speeding Citations
- Issued 222 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 24 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 702 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 92 Traffic Crashes
- Assisted 196 Stranded Motorists
- Answered 832 Calls For Service
- Opened 45 Criminal Cases
- Made 131 Criminal Arrests
**There was one (1) fatal crash that resulted in the loss of one (1) life reported in the Post 2 District in April 2011. The fatal crash occurred in Hopkins County and the victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
Through April 30, 2011, seven (7) people have been killed in seven (7) crashes in the Post 2 District. One (1) victim was wearing a seatbelt, two (2) victims were not wearing a seatbelt, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet, one (1) victim was a pedestrian, one (1) victim was operating a farm tractor, and the seatbelt status of one (1) victim is unknown.
Through April 30, 2010, 12 people had been killed in 12 crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
