(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of March 2011, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 54 Impaired Drivers
- Issued a Total of 2,439 Citations
- Issued 912 Speeding Citations
- Issued 380 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 24 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 733 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 81 Traffic Crashes
- Assisted 176 Stranded Motorists
- Answered 888 Calls For Service
- Opened 50 Criminal Cases
- Made 260 Criminal Arrests
**There were four (4) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of four (4) lives reported in the Post 2 District in March 2011. Two fatal crashes occurred in Christian County, one fatal crash occurred in Caldwell County, and one fatal crash occurred in Todd County. One victim was wearing a seatbelt, one victim was not wearing a seatbelt, one victim was not wearing a helmet, and the seatbelt status of one victim is unknown.
Through March 31, 2011, six (6) people have been killed in six (6) crashes in the Post 2 District. One (1) victim was wearing a seatbelt, one (1) victim was not wearing a seatbelt, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet, one (1) victim was a pedestrian, one (1) victim was operating a farm tractor, and the seatbelt status of one (1) victim is unknown.
Through March 31, 2010, 7 people had been killed in 7 crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
