Injury collision on KY 70 in Hopkins County

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Johnny W. McVay, age 51 of Clay, KY, was operating a 1986 Ford Mustang westbound on KY 70 approximately 3 miles west of Beulah. Mr. McVay stated that he swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway. The vehicle exited the westbound side and traveled approximately 224 feet on the shoulder before reentering the roadway. The vehicle crossed both lanes of travel and exited the eastbound side striking an earth embankment. It struck a tree stump and came to rest upright on the eastbound shoulder of the roadway. Mr. McVay, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was transported via ambulance to the Regional Medical Center. Mr. McVay was then flown to St. Mary's in Evansville, IN. Trooper Nick Rice is investigating the crash that occurred on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at approximately 11:00 p.m. Charleston Fire & Rescue, Dawson Springs Fire & Rescue, and Medical Center Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
