Non-Injury Crash with Road Blockage on US 60

Date of News Release: 02/23/2011

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Marty E. Cummings, age 52 of Newburgh, IN, was operating a 2008 Freightliner box-type truck eastbound on US 60. The truck was hauling plants. As he was traveling eastbound, the truck dropped off the right side of the roadway. Mr. Cummings overcorrected and exited off the left side of the roadway striking a mailbox. Mr. Cummings attempted to pull back onto the roadway and struck a guardrail. The truck then overturned on its left side. It came to rest on its side on top of the guardrail blocking both lanes of US 60. Mr. Cummings, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured. The roadway was closed for approximately 2 1/2 hours. Trooper First Class Darron Holliman investigated the crash that occurred on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at approximately 3:15 p.m. KSP CVE Officer Paul Dublin, Crittenden County Sheriff's Department-Deputy Don Perry, Constable Billy Arflack, the Mattoon Volunteer Fire Department, and the State Highway Department assisted at the scene.
