DUI injury collision on the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- Terri L. Smith, age 28 of Henderson, KY, was operating a 1999 Mercury Mystique northbound on the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway when she lost control of the vehicle and traveled into the median. The vehicle continued through the median for approximately 350 feet. Ms. Smith overcorrected and crossed both northbound lanes of travel. The vehicle then struck a guardrail head-on at the 61 mile-marker. It came to rest in the northbound emergency lane. Ms. Smith was transported via ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Henderson, KY for treatment. She was wearing a seatbelt. Due to her injuries, Ms. Smith was cited to court for DUI 1st Offense and No Insurance 1st Offense. Trooper Casey Wethington investigated the crash that occurred on Monday, February 21, 2011 at 11:51 a.m. The Webster County Sheriff's Department and Webster County EMS assisted at the scene.
