Injury collision on US 41A in Hopkins County

Date of News Release: 02/15/2011

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- The driver of unit 1 was operating a 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck northbound on US 41A. Johnathan Pierson, age 22 of Sturgis, KY, was operating a 2000 GMC dump truck southbound on US 41A. Unit 1 crossed the centerline and traveled into the southbound lane where it struck Mr. Pierson's vehicle head-on. Unit 1 came to rest partially in the northbound lane. Mr. Pierson's vehicle exited the roadway and came to rest off the southbound side of the roadway. The driver of unit 1 was flown to an Evansville area hospital for treatment. Mr. Pierson was not injured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts. At the present time, the identity of the driver of unit 1 is not known.

Trooper Scotty Sharp is investigating the crash that occurred on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at 10:55 a.m. Trooper First Class John Komar, Trooper First Class Mark Combs, KSP CVE Officer Richard Bolduc, the Manitou Volunteer Fire Department, the Nebo Volunteer Fire Department, Medical Center Ambulance Service, PHI Air Medical, and the State Highway Department assisted at the scene.
