Felony drug arrest in Hopkins County

Date of News Release: 02/01/2011

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- On Monday, January 31, 2011, at approximately 6:32 p.m., officers were conducting a traffic safety checkpoint on US 62 at the Hopkins/Muhlenberg County line. As Trooper Jon McGehee made contact with a vehicle at the location, he observed open alcoholic beverage containers and prescription pills inside the vehicle. Trooper McGehee then made contact with two passengers inside the vehicle. Scotty Cobb was found to have in his possession marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and several types of pills, including Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Suboxone, and Trazadone. Kenneth Gettys was found to be in possession of Oxycodone pills. Both subjects were arrested.

Scotty L. Cobb, age 33 of Central City, KY, was charged with the following offenses:

  1. Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense
  2. Possession of Controlled Substance 2nd Degree 1st Offense
  3. Illegal Possession of Legend Drug
  4. Possession of Marijuana
  5. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  6. Prescription Controlled Substance Not in Proper Container 1st Offense

Kenneth W. Gettys, age 52 of Central City, KY, was charged with the following offenses:

  1. Possession of Open Alcoholic Beverage Container in Motor Vehicle
  2. Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense
  3. Prescription Controlled Substance Not in Proper Container 1st Offense

Both subjects were lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center. Trooper Ben Cox and Deputy Shannon Albro of the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department assisted Trooper McGehee.
