KSP Post 2 2010 Activity Report

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the year of 2010, Post 2 Reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 382 Impaired Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 19,827 Citations
  • Issued 7,193 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 2,821 Seat Belt Citations
  • Issued 227 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 6,865 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 1,011 Traffic Crashes
  • Assisted 2,171 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 11,234 Calls For Service
  • Opened 802 Criminal Cases
  • Made 2,097 Criminal Arrests

**There were 44 fatalities in 38 crashes reported in the Post 2 District in 2010. This is an increase from 2009 when 37 lives were lost in 35 fatal crashes.

The following is a breakdown by county of fatalities in the Post 2 District in 2010:

Caldwell 2 crashes 2 fatalities
Christian 14 crashes 17 fatalities
Crittenden 4 crashes 5 fatalities
Hopkins 7 crashes 7 fatalities
Muhlenberg 5 crashes 7 fatalities
Todd 4 crashes 4 fatalities
Webster 2 crashes 2 fatalities

Of the 44 fatalities in 2010, 16 were not wearing seat belts, 14 were wearing seat belts, 6 were not wearing a helmet, 1 was wearing a helmet, 1 was a pedestrian, 1 was not applicable, and the seat belt status of 5 is unknown. Alcohol was a suspected factor in 9 fatal crashes that killed 9 people.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free in Kentucky at 1-800-222-5555. Callers may remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the year, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
