Stats from Post 2 for December 2010

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of December 2010, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 19 Impaired Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,762 Citations
  • Issued 695 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 138 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 10 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 805 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 92 Traffic Crashes
  • Assisted 241 Stranded Motorists
  • Answered 901 Calls For Service
  • Opened 60 Criminal Cases
  • Made 169 Criminal Arrests

**There was one fatal crash reported in the Post 2 District in December 2010. The crash occurred in Christian County and the victim was a pedestrian.

Through December 31, 2010, 44 people have been killed in 38 crashes in the Post 2 District. 16 victims were not wearing seat belts, 14 victims were wearing seat belts, 6 victims were not wearing helmets, 1 victim was wearing a helmet, 1 was not applicable, 1 was a pedestrian, and the seat belt status of 5 victims is unknown. 9 of the fatal crashes have involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through December 31, 2009, 37 people had been killed in 35 crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other safety violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
