KSP Urges Caution on Wet Roadways

Date of News Release: 11/29/2011

(Western, KY) - Slippery conditions have made for a hazardous commute this morning in the Jackson Purchase Region. Kentucky State Police have responded to over a dozen calls of vehicle collisions since 5:30 this morning. Troopers are currently working collisions in Graves, Hickman, and Carlisle County. The traveling public is reminded to drive cautiously due to the slippery roadways. Highway crews have been notified of trouble spots and are treating roadways as needed. The season's first bout of winter weather is a good time to remind motorists that winter driving is most dangerous on wet roads when the temperature is at or below 32 degrees. If you must travel during upcoming inclement weather, slow down and take your time. Tell others what routes you will take and when you plan to arrive. Don't assume that a road treated with salt is safe - there might be slick spots. Keep your gas tank at least half full to prevent your gas line from freezing and to use to run your engine in case you do get stranded. As a reminder, motorists can contact the following numbers to hear road conditions in their area:

KY 866-737-3767 OR 511
IL 800-452-4368
TN 800-342-3258
