KSP Post 1 Emphasizes Safety in High Crash Areas

Date of News Release: 11/22/2011

(Hickory, KY) -- Kentucky State Police would like to remind the traveling public to have a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday. Every year, the last Thursday of November marks the beginning of the busy holiday season. The season also brings with it, an increase in motorists on Kentucky roadways. Troopers with the Kentucky State Police will be patrolling to ensure these travelers arrive to and from their destinations safely. In an effort to reduce injury and fatal crashes within the post one area, KSP has comprised a list of high crash roadways for each county within the post one district. The roadways were selected based on three years worth of collision data for serious injury and fatal crashes in each county. Motorists will notice increased patrol along these routes throughout the remaining calendar year with a zero tolerance approach to occupant restraint, speeding, and DUI offenses. These offenses along with various other careless driving habits continue to be the primary cause of injury and fatal collisions. Below is a list of the roadways which will see heightened enforcement in the post one area. MM indicates the mile marker range for the roadway.
