Trigg County Drug Arrest
Date of News Release: 10/16/2011
(Cerulean, Ky.) -- At 0914 hours this morning (10/16/2011) troopers arrested fugitive Michael D. "Mickey" Brashears (64) of Cerulean.
Brashears was originally arrested and charged in Trigg County in 2007 by Kentucky State Police (KSP) with Convicted Felon in Possession of a Handgun, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Cultivation of Marijuana (5 or more plants-firearm enhanced) and Possession of Marijuana.
In the fall of 2010, while out of jail and on bond for these charges; and just prior to a change of plea hearing in Trigg Circuit Court, Brashears was again investigated for cultivating marijuana off Cerulean-Hopkinsville Road. Troopers and detectives with the Kentucky State Police executed a search warrant on his property and found a large amount of processed marijuana, marijuana plants and firearms. Brashears had remained a fugitive from justice until being apprehended on this date.
The investigation revealed that Brashears had abandoned his home on Cerulean-Hopkinsville Road and had been living in various wooded areas, a tent and barn during the past 12 months. KSP received information on September 28th that Brashears was spotted by Cerulean residents, and that he was armed with a firearm.
On this date, two (2) Kentucky State Police troopers and one KSP/CVE Special Operations officer conducting surveillance in the Cerulean area spotted Brashears when he walked out of a corn field and toward a nearby barn. Brashears was taken into custody without incident; however, he was armed with 20 gauge shotgun and a Glock, Model 23 handgun at the time of his arrest.
In addition to being charged with bench warrants for Failing to Appear on the original 2007 offenses, he was also charged with the following as it pertained to the 2010 investigation: (1) Cultivation of Marijuana (5 or more plants), (2) Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, (3) Trafficking Marijuana, (4) Possession of Controlled Substance-3rd Degree, and (5) 3 counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
Brashears was also charged with one additional count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and one count of Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon for the shotgun and handgun that he possessed at the time of his arrest. In all, Brashears is accused of cultivating 95 marijuana plants with the intent to distribute.
In 1986, Brashears was convicted in Trigg Circuit Court for felony Burglary in the 3rd Degree. In 1989 he was convicted of Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon and Trafficking Marijuana. In 1990 Brashears was convicted of Wanton Endangerment of a Police Officer after he fired at sheriffs department personnel who were trying to arrest him for marijuana possession. Brashears was lodged in the Christian County Jail and has been denied bond due to his past failure to appear.
