Pursuit and Arrest in Livingston County

(Salem, KY) - Kentucky State Police arrested a Grand Rivers man after a Thursday morning pursuit through northern Livingston County. Just after 8:00 AM, Trooper T.J. Williams was patrolling US 60 in Livingston County when he observed a black Chevrolet SUV speeding northbound. Trooper Williams attempted to make traffic stop on the vehicle; however, the vehicle disregarded the Trooper's emergency equipment and fled at a high rate of speed. The pursuit continued for several minutes before the suspect's vehicle spun out of control and overturned in a ditch just south of Salem. The suspect exited the vehicle and continued to flee State Police on foot. Trooper Williams caught up to the suspect and took him into custody.

The suspect was identified as 29-year-old, Lucky Hampton. During an examination of the wreckage, Troopers discovered several pieces of copper wire which were suspected to be stolen. Hampton was arrested and charged with the following offenses:

  • Speeding
  • Fleeing Police 1st Degree (in vehicle)
  • Fleeing Police 2nd Degree (on foot)
  • Operating on a Suspended Driver's License
  • Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree (4 counts)
  • Failure to Wear Seatbelt
  • Reckless Driving
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Improper Passing

The investigation into the copper wire is ongoing. Lucky Hampton was lodged in the McCracken County Detention Center.
