Fatal Traffic Collision in McCracken County

(Paducah, Ky) -- Kentucky State Police closed the east bound lanes of Interstate 24 for approximately four hours while they reconstructed a fatal traffic collision that claimed the life of a Grand Rivers man. Ricky L. Morris, 51 years-old, of Benton was west bound on Interstate 24 at the 9 mile marker when witnesses reported a tire failure on his 1992 GMC dump truck. Mr. Morris' vehicle veered into the passing lane striking a 2008 Nissan Altima operated by 47 year-old Richard Toon of Bardwell, KY. Both Morris and Toon's vehicle then crossed the median and entered the east bound lanes of I-24. Mr. Toon's vehicle collided head-on with 2008 Chevy Malibu operated by Rickey W. Walker, 56 years-old, of Grand Rivers. Walker was pronounced dead on the scene by the McCracken County Coroner's Office. One of Mr. Toon's passengers, 10 year-old, Taylor Toon and Mr. Morris were taken to Western Baptist Hospital by Mercy Regional Ambulance Service. Mr. Toon and his other passenger, 8-year old, Garrett Toon were both transported to Lourdes Hospital. Both children were later air lifted to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, TN. McCracken County Sheriff's Department, Mercy Regional Ambulance Service, Kentucky Department of Highways, McCracken County Coroner's office all assisted Kentucky State Police on scene. The collision remains under investigation by Master Trooper Chris Anderson and Senior Trooper Brad Ramsey.
