An off-duty Mayfield Police officer was killed in traffic collision

(Murray, Ky.) -- An off-duty Mayfield Police officer was tragically killed in a weather related vehicle collision on Wednesday afternoon. Thirty-year-old Andrew Washington of Murray was traveling south on Butterworth Road north of KY Highway 94 just after 3:30 Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Washington's 2006 Saturn hit a pool of water which was standing on the roadway causing his vehicle to hydroplane. Mr. Washington's vehicle then left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Mr. Washington was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calloway County Coroner.

Andrew Washington was a patrol officer for the Mayfield Police Department where he had served since 2007. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Washington in Madisonville on Thursday. Kentucky State Police were assisted at the scene by the Calloway County Sheriff's Office, the Calloway County Emergency Medical Services, Calloway and the Calloway County Coroners Office. The Investigation is Continuing by Trooper Stephen Humphreys with the Kentucky State Police.
