Fatal collision on Highway 80 West

(Hickory, Ky.) -- Joshua K. Cosby, 22 of Crayne, KY, was traveling east bound on highway 80 West. Paul W. Stewart, 42 of Murray, KY, was traveling south bound on Brinn Road. Mr. Stewart attempted to cross highway 80 West and did not yield to on coming traffic. Mr. Cosby was unable to react in time, colliding with Mr. Stewart. Mr. Stewart was operating a Yamaha moped and the collision caused him to be thrown into the median of highway 80 West. Mr. Stewart's vehicle came to final rest in the inside lane. After colliding with Mr. Stewart, Mr. Cosby's vehicle crossed the median going east bound overturning, end over end. Mr. Cosby's vehicle came to final rest in the west bound median turn lane. Mr. Stewart was pronounced deceased at the Murray-Calloway County ER by Calloway County Coroner Rick Harris. Trooper Martin was assisted on the scene by Trooper Jay Thomas, Calloway County Sheriff's Department, Murray-Calloway County EMS, and the Murray Fire Department.
