KSP Charge Murray Man With Arson

(Murray, KY) – A lengthy investigation by Kentucky State Police has resulted in the arrest of a Murray man for Arson and other charges. On Wednesday, February 23rd, Kentucky State Police arrested 39-year-old, Michael Lax after being indicted by a Calloway County Grand Jury. Lax was charged with Arson 1st Degree, Theft by Unlawful Taking Over $10,000, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Wanton Endangerment.
The investigation began after a house fire occurred at 3897 Wiswell Road in Calloway County. The fire took place on August 31st, 2009. Suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire prompted further investigation by the Kentucky State Police and the Kentucky State Fire Marshal's Office. The investigation continued for months as physical and other evidence was thoroughly examined. The investigation revealed that Lax had stolen over $10,000 in cash from another resident in the home prior to setting the blaze. In setting the fire, Lax attempted to destroy evidence of his theft.
On February 16th, 2011, a Kentucky State Police Detective presented evidence of the case to a Calloway County Grand Jury. The Grand Jury returned the four indictments on Lax who was arrested today at his home in Calloway County. Michael Lax was lodged in the Calloway County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond. The investigation was conducted by Detective Frank Gresham with the Kentucky State Police. State Police were assisted by the Kentucky State Fire Marshal's Office and the Calloway County Fire and Rescue Squad.
