KSP Urges Caution During Winter Weather

Date of News Release: 01/20/2011

(Western, KY) -- Kentucky State Police are urging motorist to utilize caution when traveling during this current winter weather event. Troopers have been working numerous vehicle crashes due to the slippery roadway conditions. Many of the collisions have been low speed collisions highlighting the hazardous driving conditions. Motorists are reminded not to be over confident in four wheel and all wheel drive vehicles as they have little advantage on ice covered roads. As temperatures continue to decrease, melted snow will transform into ice which can be difficult to spot in low light. Anyone who has the option not to travel during this weather event is urged to remain at their homes. If travel is necessary during this time, please use extreme caution. If motorists find themselves in need of police assistance while traveling, they are reminded to call 911 or 1-800-222-5555. For information on roadway conditions in Kentucky, 511 can be utilized by any phone.
