Post 16 Report on the DEA National Take Back Initiative
Date of News Release: 10/30/2011
(Henderson, KY) –- On Saturday October 29th the Kentucky State Police post 16 partnered with the US DEA and the Union County, Ky. Sheriff's office in the third national 'Take Back' initiative. The 'Take Back' program is designed to assist in removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from home medicine cabinets which are expired or unused. The program encourages citizens to turn in the medications to official collection sites to ensure they are disposed of properly.
The 'Take Back' initiative in Henderson and Union County was very successful with the two agencies collecting a total of 189 pounds of unwanted medications.
This year's 'Take Back' event coincided with the DEA's Red Ribbon Week, which is a week-long initiative to raise awareness of drug use and the problems related to drugs facing our country.
This effort symbolizes KSP's commitment to work in conjunction with other agencies and the citizens of the Commonwealth to stop the rise in addiction caused by the misuse and abuse of unwanted prescription drugs.
