One injured in a two vehicle collision on US 231

Date of News Release: 03/02/2011

(Henderson, Ky.) -- Jewell Baker was traveling northbound on US 0231, approximately two miles south of Beaver Dam. According to Mr. Baker, a car traveling in front of him made a sudden stop. In an effort to avoid the collision, Mr. Baker swerved into the southbound lane where his 2007 Volvo Dump truck struck Elisabete Flener, who was traveling southbound. Both vehicles were redirected and struck an earth embankment. Mr. Baker's truck, which was loaded with gravel, overturned on top of Ms. Flener's 2006 Trail Blazer, trapping her inside. Emergency crews utilized various tools to extricate her from the vehicle. Ms. Flener was then air lifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville; however, her condition is unknown. Mr. Baker was uninjured in the collision.

Both north and southbound lanes of US 231 were shut down for over 3.5 hours.

The investigation is on-going.
