Felony Traffic Stop Arrest

Date of News Release: 11/09/2011

Earnest Grubbs

(Ashland, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland have arrested a Virginia resident on 13 felony abduction related charges out of Virginia after conducting a felony traffic stop on I-64 this morning around 0930 AM. The charges stem from a joint investigation from the Virginia State Police and the Bedford County Sheriff's Department involving an inappropriate relationship between an adult male and a 16 year old (female) non-family member. This resulted in 13 charges from Virginia ( one count of Abduction by force and 12 counts of Indecent liberties).

The Kentucky State Police received a call from the Virginia State Police advising them the suspect in this case had just used his personal debit card at the BP station in Coalton (Boyd County). LT Jim Shelton of the KSP was in the area and located the vehicle on I-64 after it had departed the BP. Shelton followed the vehicle and he, along with Trooper Jim Ryland and Trooper John Marcum, conducted a felony traffic stop at the 169 mile marker of I-64 (suspect heading Westbound).

The suspect, William Earnest Grubbs, age 47, of Bedford Virginia was arrested and charged with one count of Fugitive from Another State. He is being lodged in the Carter County Detention Center. The 16 year old female was taken into protective custody pending her return to Virginia.

The case is still under investigation by Trooper Jim Ryland.
