Update to the Fire / Death Investigation near Carter City, KY

(Ashland, Ky.) -- The victim in the fire has been identified as 48 year old Lewis Newton Musser of Carter City, KY. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Fire / Death Investigation near Carter City, KY

Date of News Release: 10/04/2011

(Ashland, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland are investigating a trailer fire that occurred this morning (10/04/2011) around 0630 am in the Lower Grassy area near Carter City, KY. The fire occurred at a residence on Colen Branch Road off of KY 1773. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. Kentucky State Police detectives and Arson Investigator is still on scene trying to determine the cause of the fire. One person was discovered from inside the residence.

The fire is believed to have started around 0630 hours this morning. A student walking down the road to catch a school bus saw the fire and alerted a neighbor who in turn called 911. Firefighters from Grayson and Carter City Fire Departments responded and extinguished the fire.

The cause of the fire and identification of the deceased is still pending. The State Fire Marshall is also assisting with the investigation.

Detective Chris Carter and Shane Barnes are the investigating officers.
