Trooper Island Raffle Winner
Date of News Release: 09/06/2011
(Ashland, Ky.) -- Each year the Kentucky State Police sells raffle tickets for a chance to win a car or motorcycle. All proceeds for the raffle tickets go to Trooper Island Boys and Girls camp located on Dale Hollow Lake in Albany, KY. In 1965, the Kentucky State Police leased the island from the Corps of Engineers. Each year, every state police post across Kentucky selects 16 boys and 16 girls ages 10-12 to attend this camp during the summer. These kids are ones who would normally not be able to afford a summer camp.
This year, the State Police raffled chances for a 2011 California Special Mustang valued at 38,000 dollars. Over 16,000 tickets were sold and the winner was Michael Stanley from Catlettsburg, KY. The winning ticket was sold to him by Susan Stanley (Retired KSP Dispatcher from Post 14). This is the first time a winner was from the Post 14 area which encompasses Boyd, Carter, Greenup, and Lawrence Counties.
