Fatal collision on US 60 in Boyd County

(Ashland, KY) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland is investigating a two vehicle fatal collision that occurred around 6 pm on the evening of August 21st. The collision ocurred on Midland Trail approximately 1 mile South of US Hwy 60 in Boyd County. Unit 1 was driven by Jami Simms, age 28, of Ashland. She was operating a 2002 Grand Jeep Cherokee traveling South and struck Unit 2 traveling in the opposite direction. Unit 2 was driven by Lisa Walker, age 29, of Russell. She was operating a 1998 Chevy Malibu. The passenger in Unit 2 was Zachary Walker, age 31 of Russell.

Lisa Walker was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Ralph Beadle. Lisa Walker was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the collision. Jami Simms and Zachary Walker were transported to Kings Daughter Medical Center. At this time it has been undetermined if the other two subjects were wearing seat belts. Alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the collision. The cause of the collision is under investigation by Trooper Justin Oliver.

Kentucky State Police Accident Reconstruction Team was on the scene today to reconstruct the accident.
