(Ashland, KY) -- Kentucky State Police, Post 14, Ashland, will be participating in the 2011 Traffic Enforcement Mobilization campaign, "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over". From August 19-September 5, Troopers will be conducting multiple traffic safety checkpoints and saturation patrols while partnering with local law enforcement to combat impaired drivers. According to Kentucky Crash Data, in 2010 there were 5,863 alcohol-related crashes in which 154 people were killed and 3,290 were injured on Kentucky's roadways. Captain Merrell Harrison, Commander of Post 14, states that patrols will be beefed up during this time and Troopers will be working numerous hours of overtime to combat impaired drivers. He adds, "We need the public's assistance during this campaign as well as every day. Today, nearly everyone has a cell phone with them. Do not hesitate to report a suspected impaired driver to the police. Your call could save a life; maybe the life of one of your family members or friends." Please report impaired drivers to the Kentucky State Police at 1-800-222-5555.
