Two killed in a fiery crash on KY 67 in Greenup, KY

(Ashland, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland is investigating a two vehicle double fatality that occurred on the Industrial Parkway (KY 67) approximately 1 1/2 miles from US 23 in Greenup, KY. The collision occurred around 1 am this morning and involved two tractor-trailer / semi-trailers. Unit 1 vehicle, Identified as a 2005 Freightliner tractor, was traveling North hauling compacted salvaged cars. Unit 2 vehicle (make model unknown) was traveling South and was loaded with various products including soft drinks. Preliminary investigation indicates that Unit 1 lost control of his vehicle causing it to overturn onto its side skidding into Unit 2 (head-on). Both vehicles were fully engulfed in flames upon arrival of the Fire Department. Both drivers were killed in the collision.

Unit 1 driver has been identified as Wesley A. Walker, age 48, of Olive Hill, KY. The vehicle was owned by J&W Recycling from Olive Hill, KY. The identity of Unit 2 has not been determined.

Multiple Fire Departments responded from the Greenup area and assisted with the scene. Both Rowan County and Greenup County Coroners were also on scene. Kentucky State Police Accident Reconstruction Teams and Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement also responded.

KY 67 remains closed as crews continue to clean up debris from the scene. The collision is still under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
