Injury collision on I-64 in Carter County

(Ashland, Ky.) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland is investigating a single vehicle collision that occurred at the 159 mile marker on I-64 on June 12, 2011 around 0600 am. Jordan Stallard, age 21, of Hillsboro, KY was operating a 2005 Buick Century traveling westbound when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel. Stallard's vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail. Stallard was airlifted to St. Mary's Medical Center in West Virginia after he sustained multiple injuries from the collision. Seatbelts were not in use and alcohol was not suspected as a factor.

Both lanes of I-64 were closed for the purpose of a landing zone for the helicopter. The Kentucky State Police was assisted by both Grahn and Olive Hill Fire Departments.

The collision is under investigation by Trooper Jim Ryland.
