Pursuit & Arrest in Carter County

(Ashland, KY) -- The Kentucky State Police in Ashland have arrested a Georgia resident after a vehicle and foot pursuit in the Soldier area of Carter County, KY yesterday evening around 11 pm. Trooper Jack Hedges attempted to stop a vehicle traveling on KY 174 for a speeding violation. The vehicle, driven by 43 year old Michael W. Chaney of Carrollton, GA, failed to stop and attempted to elude Trooper Hedges. Chaney pulled off of KY 174 into a driveway and struck a residence with his vehicle. Chaney then exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Trooper Hedges deployed his TASER which caused Chaney to become compliant and enabled him to be taken into custody.

Chaney was charged with:

  • Fleeing and Evading 1st Degree
  • DUI 1st
  • Expired Registration
  • No Insurance
  • Leaving the scene of an accident
  • Resisting Arrest

Chaney was lodged in the Carter County Detention Center. Trooper Jack Hedges is the investigating officer.
