Attempted Robbery Occurs at Jenkins

(Hazard, Ky.) -- On December 28, 2011 at approximately 8:00 a.m. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a 911 call of an Attempted Robbery at Happy Hollow Road in the Jenkins community of Letcher County. This area is very close to the Pike and Letcher County line.

The caller advised that someone was attempting to rob his grandfather outside his residence and the perpetrator was armed with a handgun.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was going to work and had a computer in a bag as he left his residence. The perpetrator attempted to take the bag at gunpoint and the victims struggled with him. The perpetrator was disarmed in the altercation and then threatened the victims with a knife and fled the scene prior to police arrival. The perpetrator was a white male approximately 5'7" tall weighing about 140 lbs. wearing a camouflage jacket and pants with a black mask. He fled the scene in a small tan passenger car believed to be a Toyota Corolla with a "Friends of Coal" registration plate. No one was injured in the incident.
