Single Vehicle Fatality In Breathitt County

(Hazard, Ky.) -- On December 8, 2011 at approximately 9:30 a.m. Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard received a call of a single vehicle collision which occurred on Hwy. 30 in the Noctor community of Breathitt County.

Preliminary investigation indicates that Elizabeth Roark, age 73 of Jackson, Ky. lost control of her vehicle due to ice on the roadway. Roark ran over an embankment, struck a small tree, and came to rest in Quicksand Creek and was totally submerged under water.

The vehicle and the operator was extricated from the water and Ms. Roark was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Breathitt County Coroners Office. Seat belts were in use at the time of the collision.

The investigation is continuing by Tpr. Derrick Combs.
